There are nights that dreams seem so real that it is as if we were living them instead of dreaming them. However, there are other nights that we do not remember dreams. We woke up and we don’t remember anything, as if we had not dreamed anything. We consider why we do not remember dreams in our Dream Dictionary.
The reason you don’t remember what you dream
There are people who dream every night or, rather, people who remember their dreams. Because it seems to dream, we dream every night, another thing is that we remember it when you wake up. There are theories that suggest that sometimes we do not remember dreams because their meaning is not important to us.
There are even those who think that if we do not remember the dream it is because we could not handle their interpretation, especially in distressing dreams or nightmares. We found theories for all tastes in this call amnesia of sleep, even Sigmund Freud proposed his theory about it, in the same line as his interpretations. That we do not remember dreams because we repress them.
However, science comes to put some order in these dreams that we do not remember and the reason is simple. We dream when we sleep, so our cognitive processes change, they are more relaxed. If we have small awakenings in the middle of the night, even if we are not very aware of it, it is when we can remember the dream.
Those nights in which we sleep very deeply, those nights in which we really manage to rest, are the nights that we do not manage to remember what we have dreamed because we have not woke up. As much as we like to interpret dreams, the lack of them is not a problem that should worry us.
